FEMA ANNOUNCES EXTENSION IF SFIP FILING DEADLINES FEMA has exrended the Standard Flood Insurance Policy (SFIP) filing deadline from 60 to 120 days for areas affected by hurricanes Gustav and Ike. The SFIP provides 60 days to file a "proof of loss" with supporting information. Claimants now have 120 days to file from the date of loss. The date of loss for claims arising out of Gustav is August 31, 2008 and for Ike it is September 13, 2008. These are very important dates as faillure to file timely will prevent you from recovering under the policy. Click here for a notice of extension from FEMA.
