A trial attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Schwartz has extensive, successful mass tort, pharmaceutical, state and federal consolidated and Multi-District Litigation (MDL). Licensed to practice law in Missouri and licensed by the Texas Supreme Court, Mr. Schwartz is also admitted to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which sits in New Orleans, Louisiana, and considers appeals from federal courts in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Robert Schwartz was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1982 after obtaining his law degree from the South Texas College of Law. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego. In addition to the State Bars of Texas and Missouri, Mr. Schwartz’s professional memberships include the American Association for Justice (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, and the Houston Bar Association. After serving on the Houston Trial Lawyers Association’s Board of Directors, Secretary/Treasurer, and Vice President, and president-elect for 2004-2005, Mr. Schwartz served as the Houston Trial Lawyers’ Association President in the October, 2004-October, 2005 term. Subsequently, Mr. Schwartz has served as the President of the Houston Trial Lawyers’ Foundation. In addition, Mr. Schwartz is currently a Member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Trial Lawyers’ Association, and sits on its Executive Committee. Mr. Schwartz began his legal career at his father’s law firm and for four years handled general civil litigation matters and represented clients’ lobbying interests before the Texas Legislature. He moved on to establish his own law practice in Houston. For 11 years he followed his interest in litigation and utilized his experience in lobbying. Mr. Schwartz then joined The Williams Bailey Law Firm, where he had a general civil practice, handling personal injury cases, ranging from premises liability, motor vehicle collisions, and product liability to business litigation and cases involving Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and of the Texas Insurance Code violations. Mr. Schwartz was also ''of counsel'' to the long-tenured Houston oil and gas law firm, Wilson & Johnson for six years, where he represented oil and gas industry clients in litigation matters. At The Williams Bailey Law Firm, Mr. Schwartz’s first docket management assignment was the representation of approximately 860 plaintiffs in state court litigation, involving personal injuries and damages resulting from the development of a residential subdivision on a toxic waste superfund site in Friendswood, Texas. After the successful conclusion of that litigation, Mr. Schwartz worked on the Texas Tobacco Litigation as a member of Williams Bailey’s Texas Tobacco Litigation team, participating in the discovery phase of the complex federal court litigation, and later managing the law office, the five Texas Tobacco Litigation law firms established in Texarkana for the trial of that case. Thereafter, Mr. Schwartz started Williams Bailey’s pharmaceutical docket with Fen-Phen litigation as well as other prescription drugs, over-the-counter remedies and dietary supplements. Born and raised in Galveston, Robert Schwartz is the son of a former State Senator and Mrs. A.R.
